A Guide for Parents and Carers

At Tredworth Infant & Nursery Academy we expect all pupils to attend school every day that we are open unless they have a reasonable reason to be absent which we can determine and authorise.

It is your responsibility to inform the school of your child’s absence and the reasons for this by 9am. You can do this by telephoning the school office on 01452 520411 option 1 or alternatively send a dojo message to Ms Whitehead or email to admin@tredworth-inf.gloucs.sch.uk.

Following advice from the local authority regarding Safeguarding and Child protection we are able to inform you of the new absence protocol:

Registration is at 9:00am. If a child is still absent at 9:15am and we have not received any contact from a parent, we will:

Attempt to contact parent by text, phone or dojo message, if no contact we will:

  • Mark child as unauthorised and follow step one again on day 2, if still no contact we will:
  • Carry out a home visit. If we do not see parent/child, we will:
  • Report the child missing to the Police

The welfare of every child is our main priority, and we ask you for your help in letting us know that when your child is not in school, where they are and why.

New changes to school attendance brought in by the Government since August 2024.
Each school day counts as 2 sessions – 10 sessions is the same as 5 days.

Codes used on our attendance

G – Unauthorised holidays
N – No reason given why child is not in school
O – Unauthorised absence
U – Late for school after register has closed – (after 9:15am)

Any mixture of 10 of these 4 codes over 10 weeks means you will get a fine.

If this happens again in another 10 weeks you will get a fine of £160 each parent for each child. Any further 5 days will mean that it will go to Magistrates Court which could incur a £2500 fine and could be added to your DBS as educational neglect.

We hope you will support our efforts to maintain good levels of attendance and attainment.

Please call the school office on 01452 520411 if you would like to discuss this matter or need support in getting your child into school more regularly.
